Globe is now selling nano-SIM for iphone5 for only PHP40

Good news to all the iphone users in the Philippines!

Globe Telecom Inc. has begun selling nano-SIMs, the same subscriber identity module cards used in the newly released iPhone 5 handsets. The nano-SIM measures 12.3 millimeters wide, 8.8 millimeters high and 0.67 millimeters thick, or about 40% smaller than the micro-SIM found in the iPhone 4 and 4S.

Globe claims to be the first company in the Philippines to offer nano-SIMs.

“We have ordered as much as 5x more nano-SIMs than our usual SIM orders as we anticipate high demand from our subscribers, especially when smartphones running on nano-SIMs are offered to the market,” said Martha Sazon, head of Globe Postpaid.

The nano-SIMs are priced at P40 each for Globe's new prepaid subscribers, and are free for new and existing postpaid subscribers.

Globe first made the announcement about the nano-SIMs last September 6, amid rumors that the iPhone 5 will be launched.

Apple’s newest smartphone, which features a bigger screen, a slimmer frame and a faster processor, was unveiled in the United States two weeks ago.

An official of Smart Communications Inc., Globe’s rival, earlier said the Philippines is likely to become one of the first countries in Asia where the iPhone 5 would be launched.
