One Direction settles legal conflict with a band of the same name

Global group sensation One Direction, also popularly known as 1D have "buried the hatchet" against their namesake.

Billboard reported that the battle for One Direction is over. A California rock group with the same name as the U.K. version will now be known as Uncharted Shores, putting an end to a legal kerfuffle that sought damages from the "What Makes You Beautiful" quintet.

Both groups issued a statement on Tuesday announcing the amicable end of the trademark dispute. "All of the parties involved are pleased with the resolution and wish each other success," it reads.

It was reported in April that One Direction (U.S) had filed a lawsuit against Syco, Simon Cowell's record label, and Sony that sought an injunction plus $1 million in damages from the U.K. group -- made up of Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan.

According to BBC News, Cowell's Syco later filed a counter-claim against the Californians.

The U.K. boy band was formed in 2010 from the hit show "The X Factor." The U.S. version says they've been around since November 2009. Both groups found themselves on the Billboard charts in late April, with one entry hitting No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and the other entering the Heatseekers Albums chart at No. 48.

One Direction will release their second album, "TAKE ME HOME," on Nov. 13 through Syco/Sony Music. Uncharted Shores' most recent album, titled Uncharted Shores, was independently released earlier this year.
